Adopt an Actor...

ADOPT AN ACTOR, DIRECTOR or TECHNICIAN!

This page is dedicated to the people - director, actors and crew - who make up our theatre company for The Road to Skibbereen, a beautiful, brave, award-winning play which will be part of this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

We need £3,600 to be able to pay the 9 Edinburgh-bound members of the company (7 actors, 1 director, 1 technician) 4 hours-worth of National Minimum Wage on each of our 16 performance days.  We’ve got £1,200, so ‘just’ need to raise the rest, which is £2,400.

Please help by going to our WeFund page and pledging us £10 or more in exchange for some fun rewards.
You will only be charged if we reach our target by our final performance day, 25 August.

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?

Shows at the Edinburgh Fringe give pleasure to loads of people who pay good money to see them. But the talented people who make this possible – actors, directors, technicians  generally don’t see a penny of this hard-earned cash.

How can that happen?  It’s easy!

A play with an average audience of 40 people – that’s pretty good going by the way – and an average ticket price of £7.00 (also good going), will take £280 per show. If it plays for 16 shows, it earns a total of £4,480.  Of this, 40% goes to the venue, leaving just enough to rent somewhere for everyone to sleep.

So, the producers must fund everything else, such as renting rehearsal space, Fringe Programme entry, design and printing, photography, publicity, advertising, equipment hire, insurance, set and costumes, and transport to and around Edinburgh. This comes to about £5,000 and it is about all the ‘spare’ cash most fringe producers can lay their hands on.

As a result, there’s no money to pay the director, actors and technician - all hard-working, dedicated professionals.  This is where you – family, friends and theatre lovers – come in. Please!

ABOUT THE PLAY

Lianna's always in trouble these days but when her trainers turn up in the fridge, she knows she isn't the only one with a problem.

Something strange is happening to her mum, Nora, and Lianna’s pretty sure it’s her fault.  Only drastic action can save them - drastic action and a little help from Dr Who.

A warm, funny, brave story that’s all about love and holding onto it.

This award-winning play marks actress, Angela Walsh's debut as a writer. Angela (Carol Salter in Brookside) also plays Nora, at the head of a professional cast from her native Liverpool.
